As of January 8th 2024, GitHub’s certification Program is now accessible to all customers worldwide, previously it was exclusive to employees and partners. There are currently Four certifications available, which are:
- GitHub Foundation Certification
- GitHub Actions Certification
- GitHub Advanced Security Certification
- GitHub Administration Certification
Last week, I was able to successfully pass the GitHub Administration and wanted to share my experience here.
How I Prepared
As the Certification program just recently became public, learning resources are still quite limited but here is how I prepared.
- The GitHub Administration Learning Path on Microsoft Learn
- The GitHub Study guide found here
- Microsoft Copilot along with the guide (See below)
Now that we are in the era of Copilot, I decided to try and use Copilot to study for the exam, and I must say it was a great success, take a look at the screenshot below to get an idea on how I was using it to help me prepare for the exam.

The Exam itself
I was able to easily register for the exam through the registration page and by logging into my GitHub account. There were ample spots available to take the exam remotely and as of this writing the cost of the Administration exam was 200US$. I joined 30 minutes before and unlike the Microsoft Certification exam, I did not need to use my phone to complete the pre-setup, I was only asked to use the webcam to show across the room and that process was seamless.
The Exam consisted of around 62 questions not including the end survey questions. All of the questions were multiple choice, and I was able to go through them fairly quick and right away when I clicked Submit, I got my report card with my score.
The Badge that I received was quite beautiful, I must say it is one of the most cool Credly badges I ever received.

In Summary, In this era of Generative AI and as GitHub becomes the AI Platform for developers, there is no better time to dive deeper into GitHub and accredit your skills through these amazing certifications.
Good Luck to all!!
